BYRON VOICES

Charlotte Hoy is currently participating the Fitness Training and Wellbeing course and preparing for TAFE to complete Year 12.

1. What has been the best experience in your life?

I’ve had so many! Ummmm…..probably traveling in general and being immersed in different cultures gives me greatest joy. Meeting new people in general and seeing and following their way of life for a while.

2. What inspires you?

People do! People who are enthusiastic. People who have a positive outlook in life. People who have had big challenges in their life and overcome them. The universe inspires me! Its so big and anything is within reaching distance if you put your mind to it!

3. Who would you like to meet and what would you ask them?

Id like to meet…so many people……world leaders is the first thing that comes to mind. Id love to ask them what their perception is of a perfect world. Id love to meet Nelson Mandela and the Dali Lama because they believe in Peace and in the world we really need it.

4. What would you like to see happen in Byron Bay?

Trains back on our tracks (TOOT). Definitely reduction of alcohol and violence on our streets as it has a negative impact on our young people. Personally Id love to see some things fixed around Byron Bay like Lighthouse Rd, improvement of our roads (too many potholes) and expansion of Byron Bay Youth House and Youth Activities Centre (YAC) so more young people can be supported and engaged.

5. When do you think a person becomes an adult and how?

When they know the difference between right and wrong and when they reach a level of maturity. Its also reflected in them taking responsibility for their actions. It does not necessarily mean when they turn 18!

6. What do you believe in?

I believe in karma – which is based in the idea that when you do positive things positive things will happen to you. And visa versa, when you do bad things bad things will come back on you. I also believe that your life is built on your sole purpose. I also think its really important to live each day to the full. I believe laughter is the best medicine for any illness.

7. What has been the worst experience in your life?

Id love to say none but like any person I think you need to go through difficult experiences to become a better person. Being bullied at school has had a major impact on my life. I had some friends. But I still have my enthusiasm. The death of my Grandfathers was also very hard because they had a big positive impact on my life.

8. What would you like to change in the world?

Where do I start? Welll…for starters…equality throughout the world (equal rights for EVERY person). Definitely the removal of Global Warming. More laughter and happiness in the world. Eradicate poverty. Id love to see everyone with a roof over their head, food requirements met and the medical assistance that they need.

9. What’s important in a relationship?

Definitely communication and trust. Everything is important basically. You need to be able to feel safe and loved. Their needs to be lightness and laughter in a relationship.

10.  What would you like to ask me?

What do you live for and what is your sole purpose?

Hmmm…..nice simple question! Really though it’s about being a good person. I’m finding as I get older (and hopefully a bit wiser) that the more conscious I am about the way I view others and myself, and the more conscious I am about the way I behave with others, the more I’m aware of what makes me a happier and more contented person. I’ve realized that having a community of nice people around me that I can relate to in healthy ways is really important to my wellbeing so I’m pretty focused on creating that in my life. As such I’m becoming more aware of what makes for more positive interactions with other people. It sounds a bit self-centered in a way (my sole purpose in life is making myself happy!) but what I like about my approach is that I really need to be good to others and myself in a very genuine, caring and loving way if I’m going actually feel a genuine happiness. I can’t fake my happiness by feeding it with thrills and spills, big highs and lows. So I live for information and experiences that help me to foster a better understanding of others and myself. In that regard I am quite passionate about psychology as a field of study as it has lots of interesting information about understanding the self, others and the interactions in-between. I’m also aware that to think act and clearly I need to be physically healthy so I live for this sort of health too. I make sure I get plenty of organic, home cooked nutritious food, exercise my body and maintain a balance between work, family and other experiences. I live for friends and family, a balanced life and an emotionally intelligent brain.
