BYRON SHIRE YOUTH COMMITMENT

During 2004 BYS has been instrumental in nurturing the Byron Shire Youth Commitment process. Having secured funding to employ a facilitation team we are in the process of developing a 3 year plan to ensure the Youth Commitment process continues into the future. The Youth Commitment Coalition brings together organisations, business & government departments working for young people in the region. It is based on the following principles:

A shared commitment by all key stakeholders to improving education and training arrangements for all young people in the Shire.
Better co-ordination and promotion of existing local services for young people in order to add value to what already exists, especially in employment, education and training.
The creation of diverse opportunities for the active involvement of young people in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Youth Commitment strategies.
A willingness to share resources through community partnerships.
United advocacy for additional government funding to enable the key goals of the Youth Commitment to be achieved.
