FAMILY LIASON

The family liaison service aims to provide practical skilled support and guidance to young people and their families to help them deal with difficulties including family conflict, school issues, lack of communication or other issues affecting their well-being as a family. The worker can also refer young people and their families to other specialist services where appropriate. The services aims to strengthen the capacity of young people, their family and community through:
• building self-reliance; • strengthening family relationships; and • encouraging community involvement.
The service will generally offer low-key, informal and medium level support, focusing on the strengths of family members. The worker will aim to address risk factors across several levels that influence the young person at risk. This may include personal, family, school and community circumstances.
The activities to be undertaken will include advocacy, communication and relationship skills development, mediation, family relationship building and providing practical assistance.
